Educated Penang Free School and Epsom College, Surrey, UK.
Qualified as a doctor from Cambridge University and St Thomas’s Hospital, London.
Obtained Diploma in Economics from London School of Economics 1993.
Worked as a GP in Penang 1969-1990
During this period was Chair of Penang branch of Majlis Belia Malaysia and delegate to the national Majlis Belia Malaysia. Contemporary of Anwar Ibrahim.
In 1978 stood unsuccessfully as Barisan (Parti Gerakan) Parliamentary candidate for Tanjung in Penang. Still member of Parti Gerakan although neither supportive nor happy with the Parti’s political stand.
Returned to the UK in 1990 as not happy with Malaysian political situation to work as Consultant in Public Health Medicine in the National Health Service. Retired from medicine in 2000.
Has deep knowledge of the British Labour Party and British politics.
Returned to Malaysia 2008. He is now not involved in politics and is politically neutral.
Believes strongly in 2 party political system.
Member of Aliran since 2013.
